Rogue Valley Timbers Hire MLS Veteran David Horst

Medford, Ore. (Dec.16, 2019) — The Rogue Valley Timbers announced today the hiring of 11-year Major League Soccer veteran David Horst as the club’s new Director of Coaching.

Horst will be charged with overseeing player and coaching development throughout all of the RV Timbers’ offerings. Current RV Timbers Director of Coaching and Executive Director Kevin Primerano will take on the full-time role of Executive Director and will oversee the organization's strategic vision and the day-to-day business operations of the 1500-player soccer club.

“We are incredibly fortunate to be able to bring someone with David’s experience to the Timbers family,” said Primerano. “His perspective and knowledge as a professional athlete will be a tremendous asset to our players and coaches.”

Since retiring from Major League Soccer earlier this year, Horst has served as the Assistant Technical Director for the Real Salt Lake youth academy, one of the premier youth development systems in the United States.

“David understands and embraces a player-centered approach to youth development, and his philosophy is congruent with how we approach our players’ development here at the Rogue Valley Timbers,” said Primerano.

David Wright, President of the Rogue Valley Timbers, said, “It isn’t every day you get the opportunity to hire someone who has professional experience as a player, coaching experience, and a desire to help youth athletes grow as players and people. We are excited to bring David’s expertise to Southern Oregon.”

"I am very excited for the opportunity to bring my experience to the Rogue Valley Timbers and the growing soccer community in Southern Oregon,” said Horst “To be able to give back to the same community that supported me so much as a player for the Timbers was a chance that I could not turn down. I will bring the same passion for the game to the Rogue Valley Timbers as I did when I was a player. "

Horst is expected to arrive in Medford in the second week in January.
